A very very very fine house

As WordPress continues to recycle old prompts, I pulled another prompt from The Coffee Monsterz Co to respond to today

As I’m responding to this prompt, I’m realizing that I answered a very, very similar prompt to this, not even one month ago. At that point, I focused on my hometown. Today, I’m going to focus on my actual physical living space, my house. Well, in mind, I’m going to have to start finding some new prompts to write on, sooner rather than later.

Are you happy with your home?

If one is asking about the actual, physical space I live in currently; yes, I am happy with my home.

Two days ago, I completed – what was for me – a major yard project. I had to put down some new mulch around my shrubs; but not before I pulled weeds out of the area first. Actually, it was more than that, the area had gotten overgrown to the point where the were patches of grass that had sprouted up. I probably ended up cutting out more patches of sod than actually pulling weeds.

The reason that this task was made more difficult is because I hadn’t really touched the area around the bushes and the last two years, other than to trim the bushes themselves.

I’m mention all this because over the last few months I’ve started to take more pride in my home. This was property originally belonged to my parent’s house. But lately, I’ve doing some of the things around the house that have wanted to do for a while. I think it’s important to not only update a few things around the house, but also only make it your own space.

This next paragraph is gonna sound a little bit cold: When the Old Man died, I felt like Mother wanted to keep everything the way it was. Don’t get me wrong: I understand why one would want to keep things the way they are. But at the same time, you reach a point where it starts feeling as if you’re keeping everything as was, as if you’re trying to keep a living memorial to a ghost. Finally, from a practicality standpoint, certain features that make sense for one homeowner no longer make sense for a the next homeowner.

At any rate, it’s all a “work-in-progress” I’m still in the process of getting rid of some of my parents personal belongings (and even some stuff from mine and my siblings childhoods) out of the house. After all, it took my family years to accumulate all of these things.
