Selfies

As WordPress continues to recycle old prompts, I pulled another prompt from The Coffee Monsterz Co to respond to today

Do you post pictures of yourself on social media?

I do, but not under my “rebuilding” account. This account is what I use primarily for my blog. I like to keep my identity anonymous on it. It goes by two when I started reading this blog 13 years ago. I was still in the midst of my divorce and I didn’t want to reveal my personal information or be seen as spreading dirt about my then-soon-to-be-X; or X1 as I more commonly referred to her now

Actually, I take this back. There was one photo that I was in that I posted to this blog. Many years ago, in fact. It was a group photo, and seeing me in it is next to impossible.

Fast-forward to today, and it’s something that has just continued to carry over. But, yes, I do post photos of myself on social media – under my real name. However, it is something I’m gradually getting further and further away from doing. I’ve never been one to post a lot of photos of me, let alone selfies. And I feel like the older I get, the less important the gratification of getting the attention of my real life exploits seems to be. Of course, I say this on a blog that’s about…my real-life exploits.

For the most part, I do like to post photos of my kids and my main social media account. Their accomplishments. It’s funny because in a way, I feel like photos of your kids are almost another version of “chick magnets”. Women will like, love, or even, on photos of my kids. Men may like them, but usually only if it’s a photo of me doing something with my children.

But I’m like the succeeding generations, I’ve never posted anything to Snapchat. It’s kind of crazy to think about that. A lot of the young people will use that app and lieu of getting someone’s phone number. Maybe with the young’uns like the fact that Snapchat posts disappeared within a few hours. In my opinion, that app has always come across as being marketed and more towards kids.
