As WordPress continues to recycle old prompts, I pulled another prompt from The Coffee Monsterz Co to respond to today
Is there something you really wish could be resolved this month?
It’s August 2 and yes, there are things both on a global level on a personal level that I wish could be resolved by the end of this month. At this point, however, I’m not ready to discuss some of the personal matters. I would like to see resolved. Instead, I will focus on the larger scale problems affecting the world right now.
Healing for Gaza
In the bigger picture. I wish there would be some resolution to the humanitarian situation that’s happening in Gaza. People are sick, hungry hurt and dying. There’s not enough humanitarian going to Gaza. What’s worse, is the that’s getting there is not getting there quickly enough.
I’m hearing that France, Canada, and Great Britain are all preparing to formally recognize the Palestinian state. It’s about time. I’m sure that these countries were only holding off because the United States wanted them to. this is another sign that the rest of the world is moving on without the United States. Rather than a cow-towing to American interests, other countries are simply ignoring us now.
Freedom for Ukraine
Likewise, I wish that there would be a quick peaceful resolution to the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. I’ve written several times on this blog about how I admire the courage of both Vladimir Zelinsky, and the people of Ukraine. They have every right to be a free, peaceful, sovereign, independent nation, as they have been for the last few decades. If that war goes on for even one more day, it is too long.
Peace for Sudan
I know that there are other international conflicts also going on. Unfortunately, because of our own internal drama here in America, these conflicts, as well as the civil war in Sudan have been swept under the rug so to speak.
The system is broken
Former Vice President Kamala Harris appeared on Thursday night’s episode of The Late Show where she told Stephen Colbert that she has no current plans to return to America politics because she believes the system is “broken”
All I can on that matter is this: if the former attorney general for the dates of California, a former US Senator, the former and a former Presidential candidate believes that our political system is “broken” they were are even more screwed than most of us realize.
Maybe I’m being hopelessly, naïve, but I truly believe that our government, unlike the original United States Football League, had the wherewithal and enough guard rails in place to withstand a second Trump administration. To that end, O most certainly thought our American political system was better built than Trump Steaks and Trump University
I also saw on Friday that the Corporation for Public Broadcasting announced that it will be shutting down this year. I think that any suppression of knowledge or any attempt to prevent the spread of information is one of the worst offenses a government can perpetrate against its own citizens. As an educator myself, I find this absolutely repulsive. But like so many other aspects of American life, I feel hopeless and helpless right now. I know that this is not necessarily the end of public broadcasting in America’s we know it; but this is a crippling blow.
I could keep going down this rabbit hole, probably for days. But I’m already depressing myself even writing this post. Maybe I’m feeling just like Kamala Harris is right now. I’m not giving up. I’m not running away, but I’m realizing that the system is broken right now. Now we need to figure out how to fix it. The world is in a pretty dark place right now, in more ways than one; a turnaround by the end of this month would be amazing.
