Depeche Mode

As WordPress continues to recycle old prompts, I pulled another prompt from The Coffee Monsterz Co to respond to today

What is your opinion about fast fashion?

One thing nobody’s ever successfully accused me of was being a hip, fashionable guy. In fact, I just wrote another post a few days ago, talking about how, like most people of my age, I found a decade that I liked, and basically just continued to dress in that style ever since.

To be honest, I have no freaking clue what “fast fashion” is; much less do I have any opinion on it.

In fact, as far as I knew, fast fashion was the English translation for the seminal synth pop band Depeche Mode. I guess I figured the name had to have some real world ties; like the guys in the band didn’t just come up with their name on their own.

Thanks to the Google machine, and this article from Good Housekeeping in particular, I can see with some conviction that fast fashion is the idea of quickly, cheaply, mass-producing the latest fashion trends in order to reach as many customers as possible and maximize profits; with a little to no thought about durability or sustainability of said products

As for what I think of fast fashion? I hate it. There’s a lot of things about this 21st-century world that I cannot stand. Perhaps the worst of them is the way that humans consume so many things and describe them so haphazardly.

There’s a great line in The Matrix where Agent Smith tells Morpheus that he’s come to the conclusion that humans are a disease. He’s not wrong. This is exactly what humans do. We complete resources, we destroy ecosystems, and then we move onto the next one.

He’s not wrong

As much as I’d like to blame America for this time, it’s the rest of the world‘s fault equally as much. Over the years, I’ve worked in a couple clothing retailers. And it’s amazing just how much crap comes in and goes out retailers. To make matters worse, there’s only something else to take its place. It could be overwhelming if you give it too much thought.

Meanwhile…

Yesterday I made my way out to Wisconsin to help kid 1 move into his dorm on Monday morning. Of course, I didn’t do this about first stopping in Milwaukee to catch a Brewers game in American family field. I’ll be posting a ballpark review in the next day or two.

As I expected, I have some bittersweet feelings about this next season cute ones life. Well, I’m excited that he will be physically closer to me than ever before, I also know that the dynamic between he and I will be changing; hopefully it’s a positive change. .

Most of all, I am excited that he’s going to begin this remarkable next step of his life. I know that he has been chomping at the bed to get ready with college for some time. He’s known for a while about his chosen career path. I think he’s just been waiting to make it happen.
