As WordPress continues to recycle old prompts, I pulled another prompt from The Coffee Monsterz Co to respond to today
What makes a vacation a good one for you?
My two criteria for a “good vacation“ are as follows:
It gets me out of my everyday surroundings.
I don’t really care where I go, the idea of vacation is to get away from whatever is going on in my day-to-day life. In order to do that, I usually need to leave my everyday surroundings.
Do I feel refreshed afterwards?
At or near the end of a vacation, I usually feel ready to get back to my every day life. And those cases, I know that my vacation achieved its purpose. It gave me an opportunity to step away, recharge, and come back ready to get back into my every day life.
It doesn’t really matter where I go in vacation, as long as their two criteria are met. Sure, I’d prefer to go somewhere warm where the water is crystal clear and the sub always shines. Or I would also really prefer to go somewhere that I can watch a baseball game. But as long as a vacation meets those two criteria listed above, I’m good.
When vacations become a chore
Don’t get me wrong. When I go on vacation, I have certain things that I want to do. Like if I’m going to Orlando, there are certain attractions I want to see it either Disney World or Universal Studios. Likewise with Washington DC. I have the obligatory photo ops that I want to get in. The problem with having a “to do list” for our vacations is that and doing so our vacation is gonna be becoming more of an obligation than they do a time to reflect, reset, and recharge. I’m guilty as charged of doing this as well; particularly with my trips to new ball parks
Speaking of which, as I do ball parks, I’m starting to realize more and more than I almost need to spend two games at a new stadium just to see everything I want see and actually get in a complete game experience. Maybe this is why people make their vacations run for more than a week, in some instances…
