Hotel Wisconsin

As WordPress continues to recycle old prompts, I pulled another prompt from The Coffee Monsterz Co to respond to today

What is something worth paying more for better quality?

I’m not a snob or anything and I’m not one to think that some is automatically better because it’s more expensive. but one thing I can say is worth paying more money for better quality is a hotel.

When I was younger, I didn’t care as much. I was just trying to save some money. I’m not saying that even back then I would’ve gone to the absolute cheapest roach infested motel I can find. But if I thought I could say 40 or 50 bucks a night, I would choose a motel six over Holiday Inn.

But I’ve gotten older, I’ve come to realize that you do get what you pay for, at least up to a point. At this point in my life, I probably wouldn’t spend less than $100 a night on a hotel room unless I was really in a pinch.

I see this now coming off the heels of my trip to Madison‘s past weekend to see kid one. I stayed at the same Holiday Inn that I’ve stayed at the previous two other times I’ve been out to Madison. I paid a little more this time, as this weekend was UW‘s homecoming, but the truth is, it was worth it. Between the hotels, amenities, by familiarity with the area, and even knowing a couple of the hotels employees now, I was more than willing to pay a bit of a premium rate .

When I was younger, I had no problem getting the cheapest hotel room available. In fact, I probably don’t even want to disclose what X one and I paid for the hotel room when we went on our honeymoon. The point was that we were going to be out of the hotel all day doing touristy stuff so we weren’t terribly concerned about the hotels amenities.

Meanwhile…

And speaking of X one, I am one week away from what would’ve been my 25 year wedding anniversary. I always get really reflective on that day. 25 years to think back on a marriage – even on that didn’t work – it is a pretty big milestone. I’m sure I’ll have more to see on this in the days ahead.
