As WordPress continues to recycle old prompts, I pulled another prompt from The Coffee Monsterz Co to respond to today
“We tend to overestimate what we can do in a day and underestimate what we can do in a year.” How true is this for you?
I’ve heard variations on this expression before. I think Tony Robbins said it as “we tend to overestimate what we can do in a year and underestimate what we can do in 10 years“
Either way, I think both of these expressions are true. And I think they’re true for me as well. The last two years I wrote blog entries about my “blueprint for 2024“ and my “blueprint for 2025” I know that both posts were overly ambitious. But I working under the mindset that if I could get even a majority of the things done on either of these lists, , I’m doing really well. So whether or not we actually overestimate what we can do short-term is still open for debate.
As for the second half, about underestimating what we can do long term, I think that’s absolutely true. It’s interesting that this prompt comes up for me at this time of year, as I’m approaching what would’ve been my 25th wedding anniversary. I get reflective at this time of year. Not as if I’m in morning, but I get to thinking a lot about where I was, how far I’ve come and how far I still have to go.
Tony Robbins is right. We do have time. Of course, we don’t want to work under the assumption that we have all the time in the world. After all, that was another blog from another time.
