As WordPress continues to recycle old prompts, I pulled another prompt from The Coffee Monsterz Co to respond to today

What is a cheesy romantic gesture you would actually appreciate?

This is an odd prompt, both for me as a man and for me personally. In fact, I think I’ve only been the recipient of two cheesy romantic gestures – at least to the best of my recollection.

Shortly after x1 and I had met, I was scheduled to get my wisdom teeth removed that Thanksgiving weekend. X1 had gotten me a small stuffed animal and a card. It was nothing big, but it was very early in the relationship and it let me know that she really cared about me.

Fast forward to almost two decades later: One year for Valentine’s Day, X2 didn’t have a lot of money so she had seen this idea, I think it was on Pinterest where she had bought a bunch of different candy bars, and boxes of candy (not chocolates, but like boxes of M&Ms and things of that sort) and put a bunch of tags on them with one- liners like “I got the red hots for you!” It was one of those gestures that again didn’t cost a lot of money, but it was incredibly thoughtful. She probably spent more time on preparing it than she did even picking up the actual gift.

But each of those incidents still stay with me. The one with X one had taken place 30 years ago this fall, and I still remember it like yesterday because of the way it made me fee. Not to be out done, the incident with X2 happen probably 10 years ago and still stays with me to this day. I was very touched by both gestures. One I wasn’t expecting that early in the relationship; the other one really came from the heart.

But if you were to ask me right now, as the prompt did, what is a cheesy romantic gift I would like to receive, I would say flowers. Before anybody decides to freak out no I’m not feminine. No I don’t wanna be the woman or the bottom, however, you wanna phrase it. To me getting flowers or something, especially for a man, is something completely unconventional and I think it would just be a very Interesting turn of events. It’s paradigm-shifting.

We often hear the expression “give someone their flowers when they’re alive so that they can enjoy them.” It’s one of those expressions that can be taken both figuratively and literally. The terrible truth is that most men don’t get their flowers – either figuratively or literally – until they’re dead.

I’m not even picky. I mean it’s hard to go wrong with roses. Hell, I don’t even really know that many different kinds of flowers for that matter. I’m no botanist.

I’ve bought too many flowers for too many women who quite frankly did not deserve them. For once, it would be nice for me, too, literally, be given my flowers.
