A Realistic Dream and a far-fetched Dream

As WordPress continues to recycle old prompts, I pulled another prompt from The Coffee Monsterz Co to respond to today

What is a realistic dream you have, and what is a far-fetched dream you have?

It’s interesting that this comes up as today’s prompt, given the way I’ve recently come to the realization that I don’t have any particular goals I’m working toward right now. The funny thing about setting goals, or even having dreams, is that they all seem unrealistic or unattainable in the beginning. In fact, I’m often reminded of the immortal words of Walt Disney who once said “a dream is a wish your heart makes“. It might be corny, but it’s not untrue.

A realistic goal

One realistic goal I have is finally getting my masters degree. I held off on it for such a long time, mostly because I haven’t been ready to “be back on the other side of the classroom“. I don’t know why I’ve been waiting. As a teacher, a masters degree with virtually guarantee me a bigger salary.

However, now, as well as I’m starting to talk to some of my coworkers, I’m finding that as they were looking for different jobs, they’re saying that they’re having a hard time finding districts you want to hire teachers who have 15 or more years of experience and a masters degree. They just don’t want to pay a new hire that much.

I’m often reminded of the immortal words of Walt Disney who once said “a dream is a wish your heart makes“. It might be corny, but it’s not untrue.

A far-fetched goal

I’m full of these. One goal and I’ll never achieve as being the starting center fielder for the Detroit Tigers. Primarily because I lack the baseball skill to do it. This is compounded further by the fact that I’m way too old.

But seriously I worry that I’ll never own a home in my lifetime. Right now, my best chance is inheriting my childhood home (or at least a portion of it) someday. I made some stupid financial decisions when I was in college, most notably deciding to become a teacher. But between that, and the fact that I do have to start thinking about retirement or planning for retirement, I’m kinda at where I’m going to be for the time being.
