Preserving the legacy

Which three posts would you fight to keep, and why do they define the “Rebuilding Rob” brand?

This is something I actually think about quite often. I started this blog 14 years ago. Granted, the overwhelming majority of my content has been created in the last two and a half years, as I’ve been writing consecutively for over 930 days now.

But I know technology changes considerably over time. In ten years, I may not still be writing this blog—or, at the very least, I won’t be writing it in this particular format or on this very platform. I often wonder what would happen if WordPress suddenly crashed or went out of business, and I were to lose everything I’ve written over the last 14 years.

When I consider which three posts I would fight to save—the ones that truly define what “Rebuilding Rob” is all about—these are the three that come to mind:

1. The Story So Far: This was my very first blog post. It was quite literally my first step on this journey. Looking back, I can hardly believe I’ve kept this project going for nearly 14 years. It’s the foundation of everything that followed.

2. Enter The Auteur: No, the woman I referred to as “The Auteur” and I are no longer together, but I can still feel the rush of those early days and my first real experiences with online dating. While I don’t want to be that young and naïve again, I want to preserve the memory of that giddy, “lightning in a bottle” feeling of meeting someone and being completely captivated by them.

3. Strong Enough to be Gentle: This may not be the most eloquent piece I’ve written about the “strength in gentleness” philosophy, but it was the first time I put the idea into words here. It represents the very balance I have been seeking for myself for years.

Rebuilding isn’t just about looking back at where you’ve been; it’s about ensuring the foundation is strong enough to hold what’s coming next. As I look toward the 1,000-day milestone, these three posts remind me that while the platform might change, the mission stays the same: choosing yourself, every single day.
