What is the most important thing to carry with you all the time?
Questions like this always make me laugh a little. I feel like it’s almost like a test, to see who comes up with the most logical answer.
I suppose I could say something really logical like “it’s always important to have money with you“. It makes some sense. It’s important to have money if you need to get yourself food or shelter, or if you need to purchase other goods, like getting your car repaired. However, there are some survival scenarios were money isn’t really much more than kindling for a fire.
On the other hand, it might make sense to have a Swiss Army knife with you at all times. You can use a knife to cut things into percent yourself. In addition, Swiss Army, knife songs, loaded with lots of other tools, like a corkscrew, tweezers, a screwdriver, a magnifying glass, things of that sort.
Another great answer would be a satellite phone. Unlike most of our contemporary cell phones, satellite phones, actually use satellite technology, so you don’t need a cell tower in order to receive a signal. You can use a satellite phone basically anywhere on the planet to make a phone call. That’s great, until the battery goes dead.
But I think the most important thing to always carry with you is your conscious, your heart, your moral compass, your inner you – whatever you want to call it. It’s important to never forget what makes you, you.
Society has a way of corrupting us. Nature has the ability to throw us back into survival mode. For me, it’s important to never lose sight of being compassionate. As I wrote in a previous post, be strong enough to be gentle. But never sacrifice your principles.
