What is your favorite form of physical exercise?
My favorite form of exercise is lifting weights. I’m not hard-core about it or anything. Im the kind of exercise enthusiast that Planet Fitness was made for. In fact, I don’t work out nearly as much as I would like to. But I remember when I first went through my divorce, weightlifting was my outlet. I had a lot of pent-up, anger and energy that I just wanted to release. Early on, I was just miserable at the thought of not seeing Kid 1. I just wanted something to hurt so I could stop thinking about how much I missed him, so I worked out. And it paid off.
I probably lost 40 pounds from the time of my initial separation until the time I met X2. The crazy part is it that weight loss didn’t come from radically altering my diet. I did change some of the things I ate, but it happened naturally. I’ve always been a heavy soda drinker, but when I was working out 5 to 6 days a week, I gradually found myself craving it less. I eventually got to a point where I couldn’t stomach the stuff. When I would go out to dinner, I couldn’t even finish a single glass.
Of course, that was 12 years ago and I’m completely caught i the grip of my caffeine addiction once again. I’m 12 years older now. I probably can’t work out at the level that I used to. I have to keep that in mind when I get back to the gym.

While lifting weights might be my favorite form of exercise, walking has always been a part of my workout regimen.
I’m my opinion, walking is the gateway drug to other forms of exercise. Barring any physical impairments, we can all walk. It’s one of the first things we learn how to do. All one needs to walk is some space and a decent pair of shoes.
Before I started working out during that phase after my divorce, I started with walking. I would try to get myself to walk even a mile or two per day. It helped me build up some endurance. It got those endorphins released and made me feel better.
That’s the crazy part about exercise: once your body gets used to it, you start craving it. Your body gets used to that release of energy on a daily basis and needs that release I think better every time I’ve gotten out of any sort of exercise routine, I would be restless for the first few days. Unfortunately, it doesn’t take your body very long to get used to being sedentary.
