Flashback Friday: I Hate Bullies

Welcome to another edition of Flashback Friday. This, That and the Other, a blog that I follow, suggested this idea recently. Last week marked the second anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine. Today’s flashback is a post I originally wrote in the days following the start of the war. I think it’s important to share this again as it seems that the international support of the war effort, particularly that of the United States, is waning.

I continue to be astounded by the tenacity and determination of Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Remember, this is a man who originally started out as an actor; and in a case of life imitating art, Zelenskyy starred in Servant of the People a Ukrainian sitcom about an actor who is elected President of Ukraine. Two years ago, he could have easily gotten his family out of Ukraine and served abroad as a President-in-exile. Instead, he traded in his suits for olive green sweaters & hoodies and chose to stay in Ukraine. You can see the toll the war has taken on him physically. I truly admire this man. Below is a link to my previous article “I hate Bullies” and I’ve also embedded a recent interview with him by NBC News

Hilariously I see I also had a typo in my comment about your typo. It is always the phone’s fault. Auto Incorrect.

I think the show is in Ukrainian. I want to say they have English subtitles. But I let my Netflix subscription lapse a few months back so I need to renew it.

We shouldn’t forget about the war in Ukraine. Zelensky is a great man. Thank you Rob for this important reminder. We Europeans need the support of the US in this war, more than ever.

Some might argue:”This is not my war, anyway.” I’ll reply:”Do you really think Putin will stop at Ukraine?” Putin wants to rebuild the Old Russian Empire, needing desperately more room for his mad ambitions.

Hitler had the same megalomaniac ambitions when he talked about “Lebensraum”, basically more “room to live” for the third Reich.

We need continued, united support to stand against the ruthless, authoritarian Putin regime.

The is. I’ll keep doing what I can to spread the word.

I’ve been saying he wants to restart the Soviet Union; but the Old Russian Empire seems a lot more appropriate. IF Putin manages to take Ukraine, think Poland will be next.
