I did a little time traveling this morning, as most Americans did, setting our clocks ahead one hour for daylight saving time.

Back in November, I wrote a post blasting daylight saving time called “if I could not turn back time”. Think of this post is a companion piece to that one.

I love spring forward, for all of the reasons that I despise fall back.

I love the extra hour of sunlight. I just like seeing the sun in general, so I’ll take every bit of it that I can get! Yes, I know it means losing one hour sleep last night And yes, I know that I can’t have spring forward without a Fall Back. The problem is that both days seem to throw me off a little bit.

If I had to choose, I would get rid of the whole process altogether. Personally, I’m still waiting on the US House of Representatives to vote on the Sunshine Protection Act. (my God, isn’t that a melodramatic name? ) It passed through the Senate unanimously; yet The House won’t even touch it.

In the meantime, I’ll make do. This will mean going to work in the dark again, albeit temporarily . The trade off of one extra hour of daylight in the evenings is worth it. what’s more, The Sun will continue to rise one minute earlier and set one minute later every day until June 21. March Madness and the 2024 MLB regular season are just a few weeks away. To quote The Simpsons, everything is coming up Milhouse!

    Hi Rob, in Europe we have to wait three more weeks before we transit to Summer time. Personally, I would get rid of it, it didn’t fulfill anything that was promised.

    Before the pandemic there was a European survey about summer time clock change, and over 80 percent of Europeans were for an abolition.

    Nothing happened, then came the pandemic and all was forgotten.

      Hi Chris!

      I thought I had read something a few years back that there was a similar study down here in the states, where they concluded that the energy save by daylight savings accounts for less than one percent of the country’s energy usage for an entire year.

      I agree that it’s time to go.

        Totally. In Europe we’re sometimes so lame when it comes to taking fast, unanimous decisions.

        Everybody knows that its energy saving mission has failed, so why keep on riding a dead horse?

    Interesting exchange between you and Chris. I read somewhere, must have been a year or so ago now, Daylight Savings Time had been made permanent at one point. People were instantly up in arms over it because their kids were going to school in the dark. End result, IIRC, it lasted all of a year.

    As for the politicians not taking action… As I said in my LONG reply, nobody is willing to do anything anymore if it means it might help the other side look good in some way.

      Exactly. One need look no further than the recent border security bill.

      It was bi-partisan bill. Both parties liked it. The GOP balked when 45 decided he didn’t like it because it might make Biden look good.

      The GOP doesn’t really care about immigration. They just want it to be an ongoing hot-button topic.

        I’ll take that a step further… BOTH parties want to keep a wide open border.

        Pubs (anyone owning big businesses really) want CHEAP labor to exploit.

        Dems want new voters for their party, since immigrants by and large vote liberal.

        I’ve been saying for years we need a sane balanced approach that lets good people come into work legally so they can’t be used, and keeps the bad people (cartel members, etc…) out.
