I’m not really sure how to articulate this, so bear with me. One positive change I’ve tried to make in my life is to make more memories. Do more things. Be more active. Go on that vacation. Splurge a bit when I’m with the boys.
I think too often in my life, I’ve worried “where am I going to get the money for this?” or “what happens if…”. I’ve tried to make a point lately of just making things happen.
I keep going back to last summer and my decision to make a point of visiting more baseball stadiums. In the past, I would go to games if I happened to be in particular city. As of last summer, I would make plans specifically to travel for no other reason than to see a game.
Don’t get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life
Dolly Parton
This past weekend, I went to Atlanta to see Kid 1 compete in a gymnastics meet. Since I was already in town, I decided to stay an extra day and attend a Braves game. I decided to just go for it when I had the money. Make the plan, and not worry about the consequences.
There’s a famous quote that has been attributed to Dolly Parton that says: “Don’t get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life”. I think, far too often, that we get caught up in day-to-day living. Sometimes we need to get off the proverbial merry-go-round once in a while and live. It’s something I constantly have to remind myself about.
What is one positive change you’ve made in your life?
