I can’t really say that I’ve ever been the recipient of some grand gesture from a total stranger. But occasionally, I will find myself on the receiving end of small but very helpful gestures from total strangers.
It’s corny to say but sometimes those small things are huge in the moment. It could be something as simple as another customer at the grocery store letting me go in front of them at the check-out line – since I only had 1 or 2 groceries, as opposed to their cartful. There was one occasion where I was a little short on cash trying to buy some Pepsi at a gas station which I normally frequented. The owner let me go ahead and take the Pepsi, because he knew me and knew I was good for it. I know, its not as if Pepsi was a necessity, but it still felt like the guy just knew something and decided to help me.
I would like the opportunity to pay those kinds of tasks forward. I’m hoping one day to be in line at the grocery store or the gas station and seeing somebody whose a little short on money – and be able to help them. I’ve been on the other side of that situation and I know how grateful I’ve been when someone was willing to lend a hand.
