A long time ago, I saw an ad in a magazine. I don’t even remember what it was for, but the tag line read “the biggest risk in life is the one you don’t take”. One risk I took that I do not regret taking was moving from Michigan to South Carolina from 2004-2012.
Looking back now, it is debatable how successful the entire endeavor was. Teaching did not go well for me there. X1 and I ultimately divorced. When I had no other choice, I finally started going to counseling about my anxiety. On the other hand, Kid 1 was born while X1 and I were happily married. I got to live in and see an entirely new part of the country; and I finally learned to understand and appreciate Jimmy Buffet music.
Most of all, I am grateful that I HAD the experience. A lot of people talk about how great it would be to pack up and move across-the-country; but most people never take such a leap, for one reason or another. It was a huge risk. I remember my parents and some of my friends response was “Oh, you’re REALLY doing this?” I gave it my shot. I made some new friends as well as some new memories while I was there. For better or for worse, I wouldn’t change a thing.
What is one risk you took that you do not regret?
