One small step…

Daily writing prompt
What’s one small improvement you can make in your life?

Not only are there a lot of small improvements i can make in my life; but I feel like I’m in the process of making some of them now.

Since the first of the year, I’ve been trying to get back in the habit of going to the gym on a consistent basis. As of now, I have to say I’m pretty much hooked on it! There is when I find myself in a bad mood and I realize that the only thing that will help snap me out, it is a good workout. Course, I am trying to take more “rest days” now then I might have 10 years ago – the last time I was trying to turn myself into a gym rat

One thing that has gone hand-in-hand with me working out more frequently is my diet. I’m not necessarily eating much better than I normally do, but I noticed and I am eating smaller portion sizes of everything. I am eating a few more meals. It’s as if my Metabolism is actually getting more efficient. The more I work out.

I will say that I have definitely cut back has been my soda intake. I don’t drink coffee; so my main source of caffeine is soda, Pepsi in particular. As of this writing, I’m down to two cans per day. Granted, I still got a ways to go with that, but it is an improvement from where I was previously. I will at times find myself opening a can of soda and drinking less than half of it; only to find that I cannot finish it.

Mike Mentzer, a Mr. Olympia competitor from the late 70s and 80s, was pretty adamant that bodybuilders don’t need anywhere near the amount of calories that they think they do. He was quite sure that the more they worked out the more efficient their bodies got at partitioning carbs protein Etc and therefore they didn’t need the surplus of calories they thought they did. And yes, a lot of them were using performance enhancers, but the general theory may still hold water.

I know it’s difficult, but if you cut out soda altogether, you’ll probably drop weight. But I get it… soda is pretty damn delicious. Plus, if that your source for caffeine, even more difficult. Good for you cutting back though. That’s a step in the right direction.

I think if I keep at it, I will eventually cut out soda altogether!
