Before I get into today’s post, I want to talks a bit about yesterday’s post. Im already feeling better today than I did yesterday. It goes like that sometimes.
Also, I want to say thank you to Susan and My Gen Xer Life respectively. Both of them reached out to me after yesterday’s post. They are both great people and great bloggers. If you haven’t already check out their blogs, you can do so at Clearing Space 4 Joy and MyGenXerLife respectively.
I now return to my regularly scheduled blogging…
As WordPress continues to recycle old prompts, I pulled another prompt from The Coffee Monsterz Co to respond to today
What subscription service or premium fee is 100% worth it to you?
I’m sure if I give it enough thought, I could think of a few subscriptions or premium services that I have that are worth the money. But right now, in the moment. I would have to say that my subscription to Spotify premium is 100% worth what I pay.
I like being able to skip over whatever I listen to. I like having no commercials. I like having access to podcast as well as audiobooks. My big deep dive lately has been podcasts. But even now I’m finding that I’m getting a little bored with the handful that I listen to, and I want to expand my listening horizons even further.
The virtual DJ is a pretty cool feature as well. I think it showed up on Spotify sometime last year. For the most part, it will play music that you typically listen to. The cool thing is every once in a while it will recommend new stuff to you. However, what I can’t stand about the virtual DJ is when decides to play more contemporary top 40 stuff. I’m old, I know. I just couldn’t give two shits about Kendrick Lamar whoever else people under 40 are talking about these days.
Like most Spotify users, I create different playlists based on whatever mood or whatever musical genre I’m interested in. And of course, I have tried my hand at podcasting as well…
If anything, my one complain about Spotify is the fact that, like any other streaming service in any other medium, they don’t have the rights to every musician, every album let alone every song ever written. I know that’s a lot to ask for. But it sucks when there is a particular song you want to listen to you on streaming and it simply is not available.
I’m old enough that I remember growing up watching MTV to hear about the latest music news or to check out a new video by my favorite artist. Furthermore, I remember recording songs on a cassette straight from my radio. This was a time when we had to sit and WAIT to hear about what was cool; or we had to sit AND WAIT to hear our favorite song show up on the radio again. Today, if a song pops into your head, you can usually find it on your preferred streaming service.
What amazes me most about this is it didn’t take very long for person of my generation to become used to living in this “on demand world”. I remember one time several years back when kid 1 and I sat down to watch something on “regular traditional over-the-air TV“. It was a movie or some TV show, I don’t remember exactly what it was. But I remember them coming to a commercial and kid one asking “can’t we fast-forward?“ And I had to explain to him“no, we can’t. This is airing on live TV right now so we have to wait for the commercials to end for the show to resume“. My kids really are living in a different world than the one I grew up in.
