On Sunday, we learned that former US President Joe Biden was diagnosed with prostate cancer. We’ve also learned that the cancer has spread to his bones. Hearing that, I can’t help but think about my dad (aka The Old Man) and his own cancer diagnosis from 10 years ago.
I wrote about my dad’s fight with cancer way back here. I don’t pretend to be a doctor, but I feel like I’ve learned a little bit about cancer since my dad died of it.
I think the crazy thing about cancer cells is that they appear healthy, right until the moment that they’re not. of modern sciences, we’ve discovered a lot of ways to treat many forms of cancer. Granted, some of them are still uncurable.
For the life of me, I don’t know a single person in the world who’s never been affected, either directly or indirectly, by cancer. It seems like we all know somebody who’s died of one variation of this disease or another. One would think that cancer is Almost universally hated by humanity. One would think that it’s that one disease that nobody wants to see even their own worst enemy yet
And then there are the Trumps.
Sure, 47 said all the right things in his initial social media post (which I will not share here). But he’s already talking that back, claiming how he’s “more healthy than Biden”. My God, Biden didn’t even run in the last election. It’s as if The Orange Guy cannot handle the fact that people like his predecessors better than they like him. Instead of seeing the success of others as a measuring stick to reach or even to surpass, he uses others to flex his own insecurities. Psychiatrists would absolute field-day with this guy!
Don Jr was no better. Then, when people call him out for his distasteful remarks, he tried to play it off as “joking”. Bullying and Gaslighting 101.
Once again, the Trump Clan has found a way to make this about them.
But I don’t want to use this as an opportunity to talk about The Orange Man, or his kids. This is just another reminder that these kinds of announcements or new stories bring out the very best in some people; and bring out the very worst in others.
Of course, my “thought and prayers” are with Biden and his family. As a former President, he probably has some of the best health care in the world available to him. From what I’ve heard, his prognosis doesn’t look good, but does any cancer ever look good?
