As WordPress continues to recycle old prompts, I pulled another prompt from The Coffee Monsterz Co to respond to today
What is something about you that you wish you could put on a resume?
Here’s a little secret about me: I am a keeper of all kinds of useless trivia.
I know lots of TV theme songs from the 1980s. I can probably tell you which episode of the breed a bunch you’re watching within 30 seconds of the first scene. I have entire movies memorized. It may be worst of all, I have an extensive knowledge of Star Trek trivia. In fact, if there was one thing that I wish that I could put on a résumé, it would probably be my extensive knowledge of all things Star Trek.
Beyond answering questions and possibly earning some bar credit at trivia, it is mostly useless knowledge. But these are things I grew up on. The Star Trek franchise is always done a wonderful job of trying to keep its own internal continuity, and future history, relatively consistent.
Why shouldn’t I be allowed to put my Star Trek knowledge on a résumé? It’s something that I trained along and hard for. No, it’s not like I went to college for it, but I spent countless hours watching many repeats of Star Trek, Star Trek, the next generation and Star Trek Deep Space Nine. Notice I don’t include Voyager or Enterprise on that list because I think both of those shows suck.
But knowing the entire lineage of the starship enterprise, or knowing Commander Riker’s entire career path from Starfleet Academy, until he becomes captain of the USS Titan – surely that kind of information must be worth something to some employer. Do they have to be a employer out there, somewhere, other than Paramount pictures, who would demon level of knowledge too important to pass up
