My Balance Era

As WordPress continues to recycle old prompts, I pulled another prompt from The Coffee Monsterz Co to respond to today

What word would you use to describe this phase of your life?

I actually wrote on this prompt roughly 3 months ago. At the time. I just described myself as being in my “rediscovery era”. But on the heels of that, Note to self: be sure to not jump back and forth with these prompts from the coffee Monsterz – as to avoid another retread like this. If I had to choose one word to describe this phase of my life, it would be balance

I feel like I’ve been trying to attain some sense of balance in both my professional and personal lives as long as I can remember. I really do think that it is a constant work in progress.

But right now, I’m just relatively content with where I’m at with things in my life. Things could be better. Things could be worse. But I’m happy with the way things are going. I’m sure it helps that the Tigers are having their best season in about 20 years. In fact, I would describe the level of homeostasis as “mama bear style”: not too big. Not too small. Just right.

Kid 1 graduated from high school last month, and I would be lying if I said that I didn’t let out a very satisfied exhale of relief when that happened. Not that there was ever any doubt that he was going to finish school. But rather, the last 12 to 18 months have been a bit of a roller coaster trying to figure out where he was going to go to school after graduation. Now that he’s worked through the process, he has a definite path in front of him; I’m excited to see what the future holds for him

Kid 2 continues to adapt learn and grow every day. I’m fortunate because I’m able to have more active rule in this part of his life, than I was able to with kid 1. It’s really interesting with your second child, because you learned so much as a parent going through all of life experience experiences with your first child. You bring a lot more wisdom to the table with your second kid (hopefully you do anyway). Kid 2 turns double digits next weekend. I’m excited to have a front row seat for his pre-preteen years.

So for right now, I’m going to sit back and enjoy the proverbial ride that this summer takes me on, and see where it goes.

Congratulations on Kid 1’s high school graduation, and glad that you saw an opportunity to be more present for Kid 2.
