As WordPress continues to recycle old prompts, I pulled another prompt from The Coffee Monsterz Co to respond to today
What is something you thought was healthy, but later learned it wasn’t?
I know this is not really a mystery anymore, but for a long time there was a commonly held belief that diet sodas were more healthy than regular sodas. While it is true that diet sodas do not contain sugar, and therefore have fewer calories, the artificial sweetener, aspartame, that many of them contain said to be even more addictive than regular sugar.
I’ve never really been one for the taste of diet soda. To be honest with you, it has more of an aftertaste than regular soda does. Unfortunately, for me, soda is, by far, the biggest vice in my life right now. I don’t drink coffee, so I get my caffeine and obviously my sugar intake from sodas.
The trouble with Soda
My problem is that my soda intake is affecting my weight. I need to stop drinking soda altogether and hopefully lose some weight. I know that if I can get myself back into the gym on a regular basis, my body will crave less and less soda. In fact, thinking back about 10 years ago when I first started going to the gym consistently, I got to a point where I could hardly finish even 116 ounce glass of soda at a restaurant. Today it’s nothing for me to drink two of them while I’m at a restaurant.
Fasting from fasting food
Another thing I’ve got to do is to cut down on my fast food intake. Given my current living situation, and the fact that I’m usually visiting Mother in the evenings, it doesn’t make a lot of sense for me to cook for one (or two when Kid 2 is over). But even still. I’ve got to make more of an effort to do it. The way I see it, any hone-cooked meal is going be more healthy any fast food meal.
