What is something you want to remember about today?
One thing I want to remember about this particular day is going to the Tiger game this afternoon.
Yes, I know I drone on and on about baseball and obviously it’s my favorite sport and clearly I’m ecstatic because my favorite team, the Detroit Tigers is having the best season in almost 15 years. Under some metrics, the tigers are having their best season in 40 years. And in some cases, it looks like they may be having the best season in franchise history.
But this weekend, the Tigers are celebrating their “25th anniversary at Comerica Park“. Their home stadium opened in 2000 and I was lucky enough to be there for several key events in the buildings history.
I think the craziest part is that when I do the math, I realize that I am 51 years old. Comerica Park is currently and it’s 26th season. Which also means that I was 24 when old tiger Stadium closed down in 1999. That is to say that Comerica Park has been the home of the Tigers for a longer period of my life than the old Tiger Stadium was. That says as much about the longevity of the “new“ stadium as it does about my advancing age.
I can’t lie. It is somewhat emotional for me. The old man and I went to the very first game at Comerica Park 25 years ago. I’ve been lucky enough to attend some of the other big moments in the stadium is history, including its first All-Star game, and it’s first World Series. That, and I’ve just had some great memories there. Even when they lose.
