As WordPress continues to recycle old prompts, I pulled another prompt from The Coffee Monsterz Co to respond to today
If you had 3 days off from work, would you rather go to the beach, a busy city, the countryside, on a camping trip, or stay at home?
To answer this prompt, I guess it would really depend on how much Iβve been working up to this point. If Iβve been working nonstop for weeks, I would probably want to just take a few days off and stay home. I know the term βstaycationβ sounds kind of cheesy, but Sometimes itβs just necessary to regroup and recharge in your natural surroundings. Plus, itβs also sometimes nice to just get things done around the house.
I think the one reason I would want to go to a busy city would be as a tourist, to do touristy things like New York City. Or if I wanted to go in catch a major league baseball game in a major city.
But if I had to choose one, right now, I would probably choose the beach. Itβs funny that those particular prompts comes up today because I was at Walmart yesterday and on their βWalmart radioβ they happen to be playing a bunch of their summer/vacation songs: I heard βMargarita by Jimmy Buffett. I heard βgood vibrationsβ by The Beach Boys. There were a few others, but they are escaping me at the moment.
As I was walking through that store, and listening to these songs celebrating summer, just after walking in from the blazing heat outside, if it occurred to me that I need to get to the beach. I need to feel the sand between my toes. I need to feel that sting of salt water on my body. I love that feeling when I shake the sand off of my feet before getting back into the car to drive home.
Even that sobering feeling that you get once you get back into the car. Where you were realizing that youβre a little escape from reality has ended, and youβre easing yourself back into βthe real worldβοΏΌ. As disappointing as a car ride home is, and also serves as a reminder of what you just experienced. Itβs like the old saying goes is βdonβt cry because itβs over; but be happy because it happenedβοΏΌ
The point is I freaking love summer! I know itβs hot. I know itβs humid. I know some days the heat is relentless, but I would rather have blazing sun than frigid cold temperatures any day of the week, and twice on Sunday.
As Iβve said before, I think thatβs the reason that I love baseball as much as I do. Sure I like the sport, but it reminds me of summertime. Some of my fondness, memories, crying up or listening to tiger games on WJR radio here in Detroit. Back in the 80s, we didnβt get all 162 games on television, so we are more likely to listen to the radio for Tiger games and we were to catch them on TV.
But I think another reason I place summer on such a pedestal is because Iβve lived most of my life around the academic calendar. When youβre a kid in school, summer is the ultimate goal. It is the destination. It is the reward for working through nine months of the school year, particularly in crappy weather.
So yes, to answer todayβs prompt, my choice is the beach. Always the beach.
well, you know, unless itβs rainingβ¦
