What is something you did growing up, that you don’t see kids nowadays doing anymore?
Where to begin?
- Drinking from a hose
- Playing baseball, football other sports outside
- Riding bikes…everywhere. And without helmets.
- Playing with Lawn darts 
I was never terribly athletically, gifted, but some of my favorite memories of my childhood are of getting up in the morning I’m playing baseball, or football, or even soccer or hockey with the other kids in my neighborhood. During the summer, it was just a given that we would be outside playing baseball. I still see this now sometimes with today’s kids, but not nearly as often.
Some of my fellow Gen Xers will tell you, half jokingly, that we were built differently. But I think that we really were. It really was a different time. But the funny thing is, as a Gen Xer myself, I couldn’t imagine going back to that style of parenting with my own kids. maybe because we know better? Maybe the world has become a more dangerous place?
When I was a kid, Mother would tell me stories about how her, her siblings and her cousins would sleep on their porch during the summer. In Detroit. They would leave the doors to their houses, unlocked, in Detroit. . Looking back now, that seems kind of naïve. But again that’s the world they were living in as baby boomers. Simpler times, but a harder life. I think I could say the same thing about my generation when comparing it to my children’s. 
Still, I have to wonder when the current generation of young people get older and have kids, what kind of things they will and will not allow their children to do
