Slowing down the clock

As WordPress continues to recycle old prompts, I pulled another prompt from The Coffee Monsterz Co to respond to today

How can you be a little less wasteful?

When infristvsaw this prompt, my mind immediately went to recycling, and a response I wrote to a similar topic a little over a year ago. For those who are curious, here what I had to say about recycling a little over 1 year ago.

But if you ask me today what I can do to be a little less wasteful, I would say that I could stop wasting so much time. I wrote a few days back about my tendency to procrastinate. Let’s face it, procrastinating is just a fan y word for wasting time.

But the passage of time has been weighing heavily in my mind, especially the last few days. I return to work next week. My summer vacation is over. But not before I get Kid 1 moved into college.

No matter what I do, I’m always going to feel that i didn’t spend enough time with Kid 1. I know, he lived 800 miles away from me; and we make a lot to stay I touch and visit each other several times each year. But it will never feel like it was enough.

There’s a big part of me that’s excited that he “only” be 7 hours away instead of 13. But the truth is, he’s older now. He’ll be doing more things on his own. Still. I’m hopeful that, as he enters a new phase of his life, our relationship will change as well. For the better, of course.

I think that’s why I try to do as much as I do with Kid 2. Granted, he live almost 2 hours from me – lying to sneeze at on its own right. But I also know how precious and finite the time I have with him as a child is.

Someone once said “the hours, even the days go by slowly; but the years go by fast”. The older I get, the more true that expression is.
