My ideal evening

As WordPress continues to recycle old prompts, I pulled another prompt from The Coffee Monsterz Co to respond to today

What is your ideal evening routine, and what stops you from making it a reality?

Right now, my needs for a ideal evening routine are fairly small: a nice home cooked meal. Time to call my boys. Maybe the opportunity to work out in the evening occasionally. Beyond that, I just want to watch either baseball games or Star Trek runs in order to gradually just unwind from the day.

What’s keeping me from this ideal evening routine right now? Is the fact that I’ve been visiting mother almost every day in her assisted living facility around dinner time. Because of that, a home-cooked meal is basically out of the question for me. That, and it’s always tough to rationalize cooking food for one person, or even two for the days when Kid 2 is with me.

Meanwhile…

Right now, my bigger problem is Mother‘s health. She’s definitely been looking rougher over the last couple weeks. Unfortunately, for me, I really don’t have much patience for her anxiety. She’s quite possibly the most anxious person I’ve ever went. to make matters worse, dementia, actually can trigger anxiety and people who never really dealt with it prior. Needless to say, Mother‘s anxiety is even worse now than it was before.

It’s not that I’m insensitive to what she’s going through. It’s just difficult to keep walking around on eggshells waiting for the other shoot to drop. I can’t live like that if I have an option not to.

Dementia is a terrible thing and it is as hard for the family as it is for the person who has it.
