As WordPress continues to recycle old prompts, I pulled another prompt from The Coffee Monsterz Co to respond to today
What are some go-to things you do to help when you are feeling down?
Due to my struggles with anxiety and depression, I think it’s so important for me – probably even more than it is for the average person – to have things in place to lift my spirits when I’m feeling down.
But I can feel my anxiety beginning to rise, I can usually find something to do in order to get my mind off of it, incredibly anxiety. These are a few of my go-to strategies:
Exercising / working out
What more do I really need to say about the natural release of endorphins? Working out makes me feel good. The hard work provides a good temporary distraction from whatever is bothering me in life. By the end of it, I feel bigger, stronger, and I know that I walk a little bit taller
Baseball
Ive said it before when I said again: baseball is the greatest sport ever invented. I feel like I don’t necessarily have to watch a baseball game from beginning until end; but rather, I’m just glad to know that the game is there. Furthermore, there are a few things I like in this life more than attending a baseball game in person.
The Star Trek franchise
Star Trek has always been something of a magical elixir for my soul. I started watching The Next Generation with its inception in 1987 and has been a companion of mine ever since. I was just starting junior high at the time and it was by far the most difficult transition of my academic career. It was nice to have some sort of refuge from my everyday life on Saturday and Sunday during those times
I did take something of a hiatus in the early 2000s when the franchise was dormant. I didn’t really go back down on the Star Trek rabbit hole until the Covid lockdowns of 2020. I’ve been back on it ever since.
But I’m feeling down, it’s nice to immerse myself in a world where humanity finds a solution to most our modern problems
Writing
I’ve been blogging and journaling since I was in the sixth grade. It has proven to be almost therapeutic for me in that whenever something is in my mind, writing will often lead me to some answers or even just clear my head.
Have you even gone back and read something you wrote and thought “Damn. This is good. Who wrote this?”
