Suppositions of a Sleepless Knight

A dimly lit, modern workspace at night. A warm desk lamp glows over a laptop and a notebook on a dark desk. Through a large window behind the desk, a quiet city skyline is visible under a night sky, symbolizing the focus and peace of a late-night work session.

As WordPress continues to recycle old prompts, I pulled another prompt from The Coffee Monsterz Co to respond to today

If you could choose not to sleep without any consequences of sleep deprivation, would you stay awake forever?

In a word: Yes.

The 24/7 Ambition

I love the idea of burning the midnight oil every single night. No more snoring. No more sleep apnea. No more being tethered to a CPAP machine just to survive the night. I’d still use my bed, of course… but only for the things you don’t do with your eyes closed.

The trade-off is a heavy one, though. No more nightmares, but no more dreams—at least not the literal kind. But when you’re in the middle of a 1,000-day journey, the “waking dreams” are usually more interesting anyway.

The Bobby Heenan Philosophy

I always think back to a quote by the legendary WWF manager Bobby “The Brain” Heenan:

“When you go to bed at night, I’m still up. And when you get up, I’ve already been up.”

Building the Empire

Heenan was a “heel”—a bad guy. When he said that, he meant he was plotting and scheming, staying one step ahead of the world. As a teacher, I’m already a “reluctant early bird.” I don’t necessarily love the 5:00 AM alarm, but I like the head start. I like the idea that while the rest of the world is resting, I am active.

The Waking Dream

I imagine myself as a sort of “Sleepless Knight”—not a “weasel” plotting a scheme, but a man building an empire. If I didn’t need sleep, I’d finally have the hours to match my ambition. More time to read, more time to blog, more time to hit the gym. I could finally be Batman—minus the cape, but with all the focus.

I’d use those extra hours to sharpen my boundaries and build my future. And sure, I’d devote more energy to finding the right person to share that empire with—even if they still needed their eight hours while I kept watch over the horizon.

Road to 1,000 Days: Update

Day 885 of 1,000: Things are finally falling into place. After tonight’s Season 2 launch, I’ve realized the rebuild isn’t just a plan anymore—it’s real. My anxiety is under control, my credit is the next target for renovation, and for the first time in a long time, I’m at peace. There are challenges ahead, but tonight, the “Sleepless Knight” is content.

This was a striking and imaginative piece that pulled me into the knight’s restless world in just a few lines.
