Two years ago, I wrote my first giving out flowers post . At the time, I fully intended to make it an annual tradition, but life got in the way. Today, I’m finally bringing it back.
Maybe I was living under a rock for too long, but I only heard the phrase “giving someone their flowers“ about four years ago on a pro wrestling podcast, of all places. For those who might be equally uncultured, the expression means to offer someone gratitude, validation, and acknowledgment while they are still around to appreciate it.
Most people don’t get literal flowers in their life unless it’s for a major milestone. And if you happen to be a man, you most likely won’t receive a single blossom until the day of your own funeral. That’s exactly why it is so important to give people their flowers—even in a figurative sense—while you still can.
With that in mind, I want to shine a spotlight on a handful of my fellow WordPress creators. These are the bloggers I read on a regular basis, who consistently show up in my feed, and who remind me why this community matters.
Justrojie
Rojie is a phenomenal writer who was heavily active in the blogosphere a while back and is currently jumping back into the pond. She writes beautifully about her life and experiences, and reading her work is like going on an Easter egg hunt of literary and pop culture references. She has also amassed an extensive collection of daily writing prompts, from which I have happily borrowed on several occasions.
Eric Folton
The mastermind behind his self-titled blog. Eric is a middle-aged guy like me who offers a very candid, very frank view of life. Like Rojie, his vast collection of daily prompts has inspired more than a few of my own 5:00 AM posts when my own creative gears needed a kickstart.
Journey With Me!
Wiwohka shares a beautiful balance of her creative side and her deeper thoughts on life in general. One of her most recent reflections touched on the beautiful surreality of babysitting her newborn grandchild—a milestone event that sits in my own not-too-distant future.
Bloom Planted North
CJ describes herself as an “amateur, decent mother, so-so girlfriend.” Like so many of us in this corner of the internet, her need to write is completely reflex-like—she writes because she has to. Interestingly enough, it was a post from CJ that first turned me on to Rojie’s daily prompts. See a pattern developing here?
Jim Everett Table Toss
Just from the title alone, you can tell that Gary’s blog is loaded with phenomenal Los Angeles Rams-related nostalgia. Gary doesn’t post quite as frequently as some of the other bloggers on this list, but his classic, old-school sports callbacks are absolute gold for an 80s kid like me.
The “Two-Timers Club” Honor Roll
While I wanted to shine a light on some fresh faces today, I can’t bring this tradition back without tipping my cap to the original class of “Rob’s Flower Children” from two years ago. Rebuilding a life takes consistency, and these creators are the definition of it. Whether they are still actively filling the feed or consistently stopping by to drop support in the comments, they have officially earned their lifetime membership in the “Two-Timers Club”:
- My Gen X Life – Still the “Superman” of the Gen X blogging scene, tying life experiences to the soundtrack of our generation with those legendary Spotify playlists.
- 50 Happens – Mary’s stories are a constant, welcome reminder in the feed that hard work pays off and happily ever after is a real thing.
- Darcy Branwyn – Two years ago, she was using her blog to hone her fiction craft. Today, she is absolutely crushing it—moving into full-on self-publishing, collaborating with artists for cover art, and printing hard copies of her work. Watching that evolution has been incredible.
Go show the original crew some love, too. They’ve more than earned it.
Join the Garden: A Note on Building Community
I have to admit, I wish I got out into the WordPress Reader more often to discover random voices outside of my usual bubble. It’s something I’m actively pushing myself to do more of because I want to keep rebuilding the kind of tight-knit creator network I felt growing two years ago.
If you’re a blogger, creator, or just someone grinding away on your own corner of the internet, don’t be a stranger. Leave a comment, drop a link to your favorite post, or introduce yourself. Let me know what you’re working on. Consider this an open invitation to join the next class of “Flower Children.” Let’s build something here.

Rebuilding a life takes grit, consistency, and a lot of ‘Option C’ thinking. Whether I’m closing in on 1,000 consecutive days of blogging or reflecting on the decade of work that brought me here, the mission remains the same: No glitz. Just the work. New to the blog? Start your journey here to see the blueprint and the ‘Tricorder’ perspective behind the rebuild.
Today’s post is inspired by the WordPress Daily Prompt. While I’ve taken the topic in my own direction for the Road to 1,000 Days, you can find more responses to today’s prompt HERE.
