Do you prefer chicken, beef, or seafood? Or are you vegan or vegetarian?
I often like to describe my dietary habits as those of “the kid who wouldn’t eat in a family of bland eaters.” I’m a picky eater. I don’t love it, but it’s just the way I am. I’m not a big texture guy, and I have a horrible sense of smell. Those two factors alone have kept me from trying a lot of foods.
As for the first part of the prompt: I prefer beef, though chicken is a close second. When it comes to seafood, I’ll eat some crab and some salmon, but that’s about it. To be quite honest, the very thought of most seafood makes me gag.
I am neither vegan nor vegetarian—in fact, I consider myself pretty much a carnivore. I probably don’t eat nearly as many fruits and vegetables as I should. I think either plant-based diet would be extremely difficult for me to undertake, and becoming vegan would be damn near impossible. Even for seriously committed eaters, that lifestyle is a challenge to maintain.
- What is the one food or meal from your childhood that completely defined your relationship with eating today?
- If texture or smell wasn’t an obstacle, what is the number one dish you wish you could comfortably dive into?
