What’s something you’re working on improving about yourself

The Data Points of a Routine Physical

I had a doctor’s appointment yesterday. Officially, it was a physical; essentially, it was for an anxiety med refill. But I walked away with two unexpected data points: my blood pressure is excellent, and I’ve lost six pounds.

It’s a “chicken or the egg” scenario. I’m not sure if I’m eating better because I’m in a better place emotionally, or if the physical progress is clearing the mental fog. Lately, I’ve been operating under the 100% Policy—no more breadcrumbs, no more “Option B.” I feel more definitive, tackling things head-on rather than avoiding them.

The Price of Avoidance

I’ve realized that avoidance is just a form of protection. In the past, I was such a people-pleaser that I’d “fall on the sword” rather than deliver hard news. I’d let someone be mad at me rather than let them see how rough a situation really was. But avoidance is like a lie—eventually, the truth comes out, and you often end up creating the exact scenario you were trying to prevent.

I’m done with that. I’m moving toward a “rip the Band-Aid off” attitude.

Everything Starts to Coalesce

That shift is bleeding into my physical life, too. I’ve struggled with the gym because of the logistics of time, but I’m realizing that even a 45-minute win counts. This past weekend, when the anxiety started to pull at me, I fought back by just getting out of the house and getting to the gym.

Life is strange like that. I didn’t expect the physical, the emotional, and the mental to finally start falling into place just as I’m about to hit 1,000 consecutive days of blogging. But everything is starting to coalesce. The boundaries I’m setting are finally creating the discipline I need to finish this rebuild.

Rebuilding a life takes grit, consistency, and a lot of ‘Option C’ thinking. Whether I’m closing in on 1,000 consecutive days of blogging or reflecting on the decade of work that brought me here, the mission remains the same: No glitz. Just the work. New to the blog?
