What does it mean to be a good person?

Before I get started with this post, I think it’s important to point out that there is a big difference between being a nice person and being a good person.
For much of my life, I tried too hard to be a nice person. The problem with being nice is that it also gets you walked on. And recent times I’ve strive to be a good person as opposed to a nice person. Her. Being a good person and includes what is not limited to these qualities:
- Being kind
- Being compassionate
- Having empathy
- Being sympathetic to others.
- Being strong enough to be gentle.
- Having mercy
- Standing up for what is right.
- Being loyal to your friends and loved ones
- Helping your friends and loved ones, but also knowing when you have to take care of yourself – option C
- Embrace the truth, even when it hurts
- Giving yourself grace – you’re not going to be perfect, you’re going to make mistakes
- Have integrity – do the right thing just simply because it’s the right thing; not because someone is watching
Rebuilding a life takes grit, consistency, and a lot of ‘Option C’ thinking. Having crossed the 1,000-day milestone, I’m now charting the territory beyond. The mission remains the same: No glitz. Just the work. New to the blog? Start your journey here to see the blueprint and the ‘Tricorder’ perspective behind the rebuild.
