I’m going to do something a little bit different for today’s post. Instead of just focusing on one single thing I learned about myself recently, I’m looking back at my last 30 consecutive days of blogging to pull out one exact lesson or realization from every single entry. (I’ve linked a few of my favorite posts throughout the list if you want to read the backstories!)

Here is what the last 30 days of daily writing taught me:

  1. Far too many people are too embarrassed to admit when they’re wrong.
  2. Change can be exhilarating and terrifying simultaneously.
  3. The two things that have made me feel most alive in my life are jumping off a tower and falling in love.
  4. When you’re a stranger in a strange land, try to blend in.
  5. Fortune really does favor the bold.
  6. Written communication is a dying art, sadly.
  7. Would aliens even want to visit Earth in 2026? Seriously.
  8. The thing that scares me most about becoming wealthy overnight would be every person I’ve ever known coming out of the woodwork.
  9. I don’t like being the center of attention in a crowded room.
  10. The Human Centipede is still the most fucked up movie I’ve ever seen.
  11. Every decision we’ve ever made—good or bad—has led us to becoming the exact people we are today.
  12. In the world of blogging, sometimes we write as much for the algorithms as we do for the human reaction.
  13. Italy is still the #1 country I want to travel to next.
  14. There is a massive difference between being a “good person” and being a “nice person.”
  15. “Purple Rain” by Prince gets me in the feels every single time.
  16. I miss the way online classes were conducted 15 to 20 years ago.
  17. Halloween is STILL my absolute favorite holiday of the year.
  18. I had forgotten how empowering it feels to purchase a car on my own terms.
  19. As a teacher, I spend way more personal money on classroom essentials than most people realize.
  20. Sometimes when you prepare yourself for the worst case scenario, things can actually go better than you could imagine.
  21. Nothing in this world prepared me for the way a person can go from lover, to spouse, to bitter rival, to co-parent, to acquaintance within a few decades.
  22. Pleasantville is the most grossly mis-marketed movie of the 1990s.
  23. The Handmaid’s Tale reminds me WAY too much of the United States in 2026.
  24. My favorite kind of AI is Actual Intelligence.
  25. It’s times like right now that I learn to love again.
  26. The Intellivision was the Sony Betamax of gaming.
  27. A good game face, and knowing when to take it off, is key to work-life balance.
  28. A UV lamp is a great way to chase away the winter blues.
  29. Dr. Seuss was right when he said, “Those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind.”
  30. Saying goodbye to a childhood hero is never easy.
